Greg Seneff has spent a lifetime involved in music. From his family’s roots in Barbershop singing, to church & school choirs, to singing and playing drums for garage rock bands, Greg is steeped in music of all kinds.
Greg took his passion for music and the creative process and pursued work in the industry as a booking agent, band roadie, radio DJ, music buyer for a retail store, video & audio producer, music columnist and concert promoter. When he finally realized that his passion included helping those in creative roles he went to law school with the sole intent to pursue a career in entertainment law.
Greg has held the positions of “Director of Legal Affairs” and “Director of Business Affairs” and two internationally recognized record and music publishing companies. He has also served as General Counsel for two music trade organizations, and as an advisory board member to a music publication.
As an adjunct professor at the Delta Music Institute at Delta State University, and a seminar presenter at various music conferences, Greg revels in opportunities to assist artists, music writers and musicians learn more about the business and legal side of the music industry and avoid pitfalls commonly experienced by so many. The events Greg has participated in include: Academy of Gospel Music Arts regional events, Music in the Rockies, for the Southern Gospel Music Guild, the Nashville New Music Conference, the Midwest Entertainment Industry Conference, the West Virginia Music Conference, the CIA conference, Independent Music Conference, the Millennium Music Conference, and the Write About Jesus Conference. Greg and Dove-award winning songwriter Billy Sprague are available to conduct one-day seminars called the Momentum Music Workshop™ designed to encourage and mentor the local artist and songwriter. Greg drafts, reviews and negotiates contracts and licenses (recording, production, music publishing, management, booking agent, mechanical, synchronization, book publishing and others), assists in the registration of copyrights and trademarks, and engages in litigation for the enforcement of contracts, defense of contract breach claims, royalty and fee collections, fraud, infringement, and other actions related to entertainment law fields.
Greg is the producer of MusicLawBiz™ Vol.1, an educational project for artists and songwriters which contains 13 hours of audio information on 12 CDs and approximately 400 pages of information. The subjects covered include record contracts, publishing contracts, band partnership agreements, forming a corporation or Limited Liability Company, booking and management issues, copyright, trademark, and rights of publicity issues, finances for small businesses, how to pitch demo recordings, and much more. Included are 8 interviews with artists, songwriters, a record producer, a booking agent, an artist manager, a Vice President of A&R, and a personal financial counselor.
Greg often writes columns and contributes responses to music discussion boards on issues of music business and law. He and his co-producer, Jonathan Nation, produce the podcast Artist Insider™.
